Each chapter contains Bible verses and applications fit for young inquiring minds. It follows the progress boys and girls make when becoming Christian young people.
Taz is a beautiful beagle hound which was adopted by Raymond and Patricia Jones. Taz begins his life’s story by telling about the family of Ray and Patti before he was born. After being born, his first owner mistreated him. He found himself in an animal shelter. Then his second owner rejected him because “he did not fit in” and took him back to the animal shelter. Taz prays and asks a God he does not know for help. “Dear God, I believe your Word. You have told us, ‘All things work together for good to those who love you.’ You know my heart, Lord. Please send me a mommy and daddy who will love me and take care of me.”
Then Taz is “born again” into Ray and Patti’s home. He finds “all things have become new.” He exclaims, “Thank you, Jesus! I have been ‘born again’. O boy! O boy!” One day he enters the “abundant life,” with all the joy and happiness he could ever imagine.
The following day was Sunday. Mommy and daddy left me all alone when they went to church. At the end of the couch where I usually took a nap, there was a table. On the table sat a telephone and an answering machine. While they were at church, I got excited over some kind noise. When mommy and daddy came home, they discovered that I had knocked the telephone onto the floor. I pressed the “record message” button on the answering machine, and I cried. Mommy and daddy laughed when they saw what I had done. Then they heard my message on the answering machine. They said, “O Taz, you are so funny!”
After dinner, mommy and daddy took me to Kevin and Wendy’s home. Two dogs, Bessie, a German Shepherd, and Droopy, a Basset Hound owned Kevin and Wendy. I watched Bessie and Droopy as they went thru a hole in the door that was covered by a plastic window. I wondered, “What is that about?” I walked over to the plastic window and carefully checked it out. Then Bessie and Droopy came thru the window into the house. Wow! That is cool. When they went out again, I followed Droopy but the window swung back and hit my nose. “I don’t know about this,” I thought. “This could be dangerous.” I carefully pushed the window open with my nose and stepped thru the door. “Wow, I’m outside. Great!” From that moment on doggie doors and I were best friends
For twenty-two years, Raymond Jones was convinced that he could earn his way into heaven through good works. Still he had a nagging doubt his good works would balance the scale against the guilt he carried. Although he fooled everyone, he knew he was not fooling God. In 1963, the Navy sent him to the Pacific island of Guam. He became involved with the Christian Servicemen’s Center and a church that preached the gospel. He came to understand that he needed to be “born again.” Soon Christ became real to him and took his nagging fear away. God’s wonderful peace filled his heart for the first time.
