Chapter 1: Accountability Leader Guide
1. How to Lead an Accountability Program
In the preface of this book, we learned that God will hold us accountable. We also learned that the pastor is responsible for the accountability of the church. We learned that each believer is responsible for the accountability of fellow believers.
Many churches do not have accountability programs. This book is intended to serve as a guide to help you create an accountability program in your church.
Discipleship is comprised of three parts: relationship, training, and accountability.
There are many ministries in a church, such as worship and small group. Each of these ministries should complement each other. Accountability should be a separate ministry in your church that complements and is complemented by the other ministries in your church. Accountability is a separate ministry from your small group ministry.
While accountability is separate from the teaching ministry in the church, it cannot exist without teaching.
Accountability is for all believers—mature and immature. There should be no stigma about participating in an accountability program. All people who do not think they need accountability in their lives are probably not mature believers.
Read 1 Corinthians 10:12: “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”
2. Training Session
The material in this book provides basic training for you to use in three areas of accountability: money, health, and relationships. You will notice that there is an initial training session entitled, “The Reason for It All.” It is recommended that prior to doing the initial training session for money, health, or relationships that your audience clearly understands the reason for accountability.
The accountability leader does not have to lead the same group of people through the training program for money, health, or relationships. It is recommended that the accountability leader periodically advertise to the church that there is going to be a training session for the specific topic of money, health, or relationships.
