I am on a journey like most of you. I am on a journey to make life bearable, fulfilling, joyful, and worthy of something greater than myself. I am on a journey to make a difference in the life of at least one person. I will diligently speak the name of Christ and live in a manner that lets others experience the presence of Christ through me.  My journey was originally centered on myself but prayer has opened my eyes to help me find my purpose.  To serve and worship God.

What is my purpose? Everyone has wondered about this question. Here it is in a nut shell. Our purpose is to worship God. God did not create man because he thought it might be fun to make something. God created man to worship him as the supreme creator of everything. God could have forced man to worship him, but he didn’t. If God didn’t give man free will to worship him, man would not worship him with all of their heart. When we choose to worship with a pure heart our love for God is real.

It’s hard for me to keep my heart and mind centered on God all of the time because there are too many distractions everywhere. I even get distracted in church. I often think of things that are not related to anything happening in the service. I use to think nothing of it. I always wondered why the preachers told us not to think about what we were going to have for lunch because it always made me think of lunch. I always tended to think about whatever it was I was told not to think about. It’s hard to tune things out sometimes.

It would be easy to achieve our purpose if we could tune things out. Think about this. What if instead of tuning things out we try to trick ourselves into our purpose. Better yet, let’s condition ourselves into achieving our purpose. What if instead of telling ourselves all of the time what not to do, we tell ourselves what we should be doing. This has helped me out tremendously. Honestly, there are tons of things out there that we shouldn’t be doing. If we are mentioning those things in our heads all of the time and we are seeing people do these things all of the time then we are more than likely to do those things.

If we want to achieve the purpose God intended for us then we need to change our thinking and center our lives on Him. It’s easy for me to write these words and pretend I have it all together. It’s easy for me to tell you what we should be doing. Here is my reality. I struggle every day. I fail tremendously, every day. You are not alone in your struggle to put God first but if you pray your chances improved in achieving your purpose.

I understand that I will never live up to all of the expectations set out by God. I want you to understand the same. You need to understand that it is impossible for you to earn your way into heaven. You are saved by the grace of God and the blood of Jesus when you trust him as Savior and Lord. As soon as you experience this gift of grace, you have then received the Holy Spirit and should become baptized and join in Christian fellowship into a local body of believers. Then and only then can you shed the old man and come into the newness of life as a new person. This is how you can start your journey toward your purpose of worshipping God with all of your heart.

Perfection is impossible so you should strive to live a life that represents Jesus in your actions and words. There is one thing that is hard for me to grasp. It is hard for me to grasp the idea that even though I will never be good enough by myself, I am good enough because of Jesus. That is a real reason for true worship.

I challenged myself whenever I can. I challenged myself to worship in my car every morning when I drive to work and the same when I drive home from work. This has helped me tremendously in my walk with God. I get to worship for 20 minutes in the morning and I get to worship for 20 minutes in the evening. Then I challenged myself to worship during my lunch time at school. So I am now able to worship for 40 minutes while I drive and 35 minutes while I have my lunch. I am slowly working toward my goal of worshipping as much as humanly possible and not just in Church.

Where is your heart outside of Church services? How do you worship God?

Sean always seemed like an ordinary person doing ordinary things. He is an accomplished public school teacher and track coach who cares about kids. Recently he started to change. This change was dramatic and inspiring. He began to search for his purpose only to find he needed God. God was his purpose. When God used to knock at his door Sean would pretend no one was home. When he finally answered the call he ripped open the door and stormed through without looking back. While writing his book he vowed to make God the focus of his life while teaching his kids to love God and live like Christ. Every part of Sean's life, up until this point, was made possible because of his wife Mary Claire and God. They are beginning their journey together.
