By Jonathan “Jay” D. Scutt
Pastor Jonathan “Jay” Scutt had just joined Calvary Chapel Sawgrass in Florida when he took advantage of a great opportunity—the chance to go to Kenya. In Leaving the Grapes, he shares a collection of short stories from his life and the encounters that followed. Once there, his eyes were opened for the first time to the plight of the poor. He’d always been a Christian, but he realized that to truly do God’s will, he needed to focus on “the least of these” every single day, not just when it suited him. Helping others brought meaning to his life, and it can help you, too. Even if you have a great job and a comfortable lifestyle, that doesn’t bring fulfillment; more importantly, it’s not how God wants you to live. You must lay down your wants for God’s, a process that starts by learning what He wants you to do concerning the poor. Join Pastor Jay as he meets Jesus on the face of the hurting and the poor. He shares heartfelt stories about how everyday people are Leaving the Grapes.

By David Rex Gosnell
Jesus had an intimate relationship with His Father. Jesus pointed out that “the Father and I are one” (John 10:30), and He prayed that His followers would have that same closeness with the one who loved them. Jesus desires that we all build a personal relationship with our heavenly Father. Do you long for a closer walk with God? If so, then Perfect* can show you how to establish and develop an intimate relationship with Him. Join pastor and teacher David Rex Gosnell on an awe-inspiring journey though the Model Prayer, also called the Lord’s Prayer, and learn why Jesus stressed this prayer as the key to communicating with God. With warmth and grace, Gosnell uses experiences from his own life to illustrate why prayer is so essential to our relationship with God. He draws on key verses in the Bible to show the numerous times Jesus urged his disciples to turn to prayer, proving that there was a direct connection between Jesus’ prayers and God’s power. Each chapter includes a summary and questions for further reflection and personal or group study. Experience God’s kingdom, power, and glory by embarking on an intimate and enduring relationship with your heavenly Father. Let Perfect* lead the way!

The early 1940s weren’t easy years for America or the world at large. Jacob was just a young boy in New Hampshire when World War II broke out. His father was sent away to fight faceless monsters, while Jacob and his remaining family moved in with his grandparents. It was easy living with his grandparents, despite his mother’s worry that something might happen to Jacob’s father. One day, though, Jacob’s father came home. The family moved into their own home, and just like the rest of America, had to adjust to war-caused austerity. It wasn’t easy for young Jacob. He discovered that although he occasionally brought out the best in people, he was more likely to bring out the worst. All he wanted was his freedom—freedom to ride his bike, get a job shoveling snow, and even build a boat for his father, despite his father’s misgivings. Kids Don’t Build Boats follows young Jacob from a precocious child to a troubled teen. The church was always in the background, as Christ loved Jacob, despite his misbehavior. Jacob was lucky to have an everlasting friend through his tumultuous times, and like Noah with the ark, Jacob found a purpose and eventual peace.

Everyone has experiences that sometimes seem to bring us to our wit’s end. A haunting memory of baggage of the past can often cause great distress. When life seems like the pits and the giants abound, or when you hear the lion roar, where do you go? What do you do? In Putting Humpty Dumpty Back Together Again: Biblical Insights for Practical Living, author Randy White presents a discovery of the profound truths of the Bible. These principles are there for us to apply when we find ourselves in those crisis moments that lead to discouragement and defeat. This study is not a how-to guide. Rather, it is intended for all individuals engaged with and facing the daily annoyances and irritations of everyday life. The principles examined here can be powerful when applied in times of fear and frustration, when we need help and guidance the most. There is no need to wallow in the difficulties when the Bible is there to help us find our way back to happiness.

The main thrust of my book is to present my family biography and heritage, and a history of my career. I also delve into the major historical events that I personally lived through. Most of these have been set out in great detail by others, but their reports have purposely or naively ignored the important religious happenings that occurred during these times. These revelations have been recorded, investigated and found credible. The children of Fatima, Ste. Faustina and Ste. Teresa of Calcutta, Blessed Pope John Paul II and others were vibrant people who made their appearance on the Stage of Life while I lived. Their experiences must be put on the scales and weighed, along with the political and mundane things that others find important. Their influence on what transpired over the last 100 years cannot be dismissed. My life experiences have definitely proven to me that God is still very much alive!

By Lillian Thompson
Lillian Thompson has always wondered who she is and why she is here on Earth. While growing up during the 1960s in Cleveland, Ohio, and attending a Mennonite church, she felt a responsibility to follow the beliefs her parents practiced daily. As the youngest of five children, Lillian journeyed through early childhood without noticing racial differences. But when she began attending public school and found herself a minority, Lillian began to slowly transform into a good girl at church and a bad girl on the streets. In her memoir, Lillian describes a poignant and challenging coming-of-age journey in which she dutifully follows the word of God, while being placed in several different situations that cause her to simultaneously question the meaning of love. After enduring sexual abuse by a neighbor’s son, Lillian wonders if she will ever find true love—until she meets Morris. But when she becomes pregnant and later marries Morris, she realizes that the way of life she has been following for years no longer holds its appeal. And so begins her pilgrimage to the truth. Call Me Uncle Tom? shares one woman’s story of how her faith in God was not only tested and shaped by her life experiences, but also by racial and religious cultures in America.

Many couples wish for the type of marriage Adam and Eve had, but their chances of achieving that relationship are minimized when they don’t have the necessary tools to get there. Dave Bennett’s The Healing Touch not only promises a paradisical marriage, such as Adam and Eve had in the beginning, but also provides the tools to get there. He shares how two people can grow in Christ together. Bennett provides the scriptural means for sustaining the relationship and the know-how to resolve issues so the relationship can continue to grow in social and emotional intimacy and in the richness of life skills. It is essential for all of us to learn how to truly walk with God in intimacy on a daily basis. The Healing Touch shows it is this ongoing intimacy that enables us to relate to our spouses with the unconditional love of agape and an uncommon commitment all of us need. Loving each other becomes fun, spiritual, and emotionally and physically intimate. It never gets old.
