Young Luke Garrison is distraught over the untimely death of his father and sets out on a summer adventure that will ultimately change his life. Unable to cope with his grief, he seeks solace with his aunt and uncle with one goal in mind—getting over his father’s death and moving on with his life. The last thing he expects is to meet the girl of his dreams. Yet Emily Alderman, with her mysterious past and well-kept secrets, is someone Luke is immediately captivated by. And against her better judgment, Emily is drawn to Luke as well. However, before the relationship can take root, they must learn to let go of the past. Luke needs to convince Emily that he, unlike every other man in her life, can be trusted. Emily must show Luke that life is more than just bad things happening to good people and that losing someone you love is far better than having never loved anyone at all. As the two hesitantly develop a relationship, they discover each other’s secrets and also learn some very valuable lessons. Most importantly, Luke and Emily discover that no matter what life throws at us, we all deserve a second chance.
