Many churches and Christians have fallen for the lie that evangelism, or at least some methods of evangelism, do not work today; debate about this goes on among Christians. All this happens in the church, while lost people—people without Jesus—are dying and heading for an eternal hell. Jesus calls every Christian to be His witness. The Great Commission is God’s mandate for making lasting disciples by taking the gospel to all peoples. Even so, the church lives as though God’s command for evangelism is an option. In Breaking the Evangelism Code, author Victor Benavides helps Christians, including ministers and students preparing for the ministry, understand evangelism as it exists today. Benavides presents methods and approaches that have proved to be effective in sharing God’s Word. Missionaries have used these methods all over the world, resulting in hundreds coming to faith in Jesus. Evangelism is about obedience, which is about being holy. When people are obedient to God, they become more holy; when they are disobedient by saying no to evangelism, people are living an unholy life. Breaking the Evangelism Code will help those concerned share the Word and lead people back to God.

Although disgusted by religion, Zechariah, a wellrespected first-century journalist, is sent on a journey requiring his utmost attention to that very subject. Zechariah reports for the greater area of Israel, and his boss sends him to do a character study on the man currently enchanting the local population: Jesus. Zechariah thinks it will be just another assignment, but it turns out to be bigger than any story he could have imagined. Th rough interviews with those who know Jesus—including shepherds, a magi, Mary and Joseph, those known as disciples, and even the taxpayer Zacchaeus—Zechariah begins to unearth the true nature of this man who claims to be a “Savior.” More importantly, Zechariah starts to wonder if his aversion to religion is warranted, especially when Jesus teaches new concepts such as grace and forgiveness. Step by step, he comes to realize the enormity of the message Jesus brings and what it can mean for all of mankind. Humorous, innovative, and inspiring, Th e Real Jesus follows one man on a life-altering journey from conformity and unbelief to transformation and peace.

My earliest memory was of being a victim of child abuse. At 17 I ran and escaped from that environment into the Army. I went to war in Viet Nam. I “celebrated” my 18th, 19th and 20th birthdays there. When I returned, the Veterans Administration rated me as 100% disabled from that experience. Then using the GI Bill I went to college. When I graduated, I lied about being disabled to gain employment. I became a cop. During the next 3 decades I saw the good and the evil that humans do to each other literally from the cradle to the grave. I was a Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Elderly Abuse investigator and then I went to Homicide. I was part of a group that facilitated many in their walk to either life in prison or onto Florida’s death row. During that time I had no belief in God. Then during a high speed vehicle pursuit, I fractured most of my spine. I experienced months of hospitals and rehab. When I was finally well, I did it again but much worse in a near fatal motorcycle crash. During my months of recovery, several Christian therapists that worked with me, helped me find my faith and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. When I finally walked out of the hospital, I started a Christian ministry dedicated to helping others who have suffered devastating injuries and crisis in their lives.
